President Obama praises new climate-change agreement with China

After President Obama met with China’s President Xi Jinping on his last day in the country they announced new goals to cut emissions in an attempt to fight climate and change and encourage other nations to join with them in halting the global crisis. President Obama calls this achievement “an historic agreement” representing “a major milestone in the U.S.-China relationship.” The agreement states that the US would cut its 2005 level of carbon emissions by 26% before 2025. China would peak its emissions by 2030 and aim to get 20%.  Republicans immediately criticized the deal calling it “unrealistic.” McConnell claimed it “would ensure higher utility rates and far fewer jobs.” Coal use within the US has declined as utilities have chosen to use cheaper natural gas, according to the International Energy Agency.
