There are many reasons the Climate Summit in Paris is important. Here are five:
- The laws of physics wait for no one. GHG emissions continue to escalate and Earth is in a fever. We need a binding global agreement that will reduce GHG emissions to no more than 1.5 degree C.
- Poorer nations contribute the least to GHG emissions and suffer the most from climate changes. They do not have the funds nor technology to either adapt or mitigate the consequences of climate change.
- This is the time for ALL nations to adopt a “common but differentiated responsibility” platform that recognizes that some countries bear more responsibility for the climate changes than others. All must reduce; some must do more so than others.
- Small island nations are already experiencing rising
