World leaders have gathered in Paris to discuss, again, how to tackle climate change. Two weeks of hard labour to save us from ourselves. The previous attempts, and particularly the 2009 Copenhagen conference, have been failures. Some are hopeful about tthe 2015 edition, as nations have informed the organising party what they are able to do internally. Also, many initiates have been started and funds have been promised. However, I am not part of this optimistic group, I think we have heard all this before…
Why these conferences fail? Very simple: there are too many participants, for whom the issue at stake does not seem to be urgent enough. The debated gains and losses are regarded as a zero-sum games.
